In today's article, we talk about a simple and meaningful method of success.
Apart from your creative talent, one of the most basic element you need to build a successful business is to answer why you do what you do. This is one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves.
We have no problem telling people what we do: I'm a blogger, I'm a designer, I'm a painter, I'm a photographer, etc. But we rarely explain WHY we do what we do.
Knowing why is the core of a successful business.
One of my favorite quotes of Simon Sinek, international speaker and author of Start with Why perfectly summarizes why clients care about your business “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”
Most leaders and companies start from the outside in. They start with What (what products, what services etc).
Inspired leaders think, act, and communicate from the inside out. They start with Why.
The Why is not to make a profit. It’s your purpose, your cause, and what you deeply believe.
Why does your business exist? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? Why should anyone care? What you do, just proves what you believe, he adds- and shares Apple’s case and explains they’ve become so successful knowing why they do what they do (watch Sinek’s Ted Talk).
Working with creators for several years, I notice over and over again thinking patterns and behaviors that show whether a new project or a new product will be a success or not. The most successful are those who know Why they do what they do.
If you know Why, you will then easily know What and How.
By starting with your why you attract people who read your posts and become loyal followers or buy your products and promote your company because they believe what you believe. Knowing Why makes your future decisions easier, and brings more meaning to your communication with partners and clients.
To become a successful creative entrepreneur you need a clear vision and share your WHY with others. This helps you identify ideal clients and redirect those visitors or customers who are not interested in your mission to the side.
Sinek names this process “Golden Circle”.
1. WHY: your values nd beliefs
2. HOW: your work or business approach
3. WHAT: Your products or services
Find your Why
Start wondering on why you are creating. Worry less about products or services now and focus more on Why you're doing what you're doing. If you feel that you cannot find an answer, take a pause and think without restrictions what excites you and what is important to you. Identify your mission and how you are contributing to the world and yourself.
Then make sure your actions and your daily routine are moving you towards this overall vision.
When you find the answer, it will soon become part of a common experience that will lead you to your own unique success.
